During the past week we have witnessed several cross over accidents, one fatal, where steel barriers have failed to contain vehicles, including two incidents along the M5 motorway.
Today on the M6 (Jct41-42) a cross over accident was prevented as the BBS Concrete Barrier took the impact and successfully stopped the HGV with an abnormal load from crossing over the central reservation and colliding with oncoming traffic. The barrier was struck twice as the HGV came to a standstill on the northbound carriageway without causing injury to the driver.
The concrete barrier aims to prevent crossover accidents and to significantly reduce vehicle damage and occupant injury. The Highway Barrier is designed to redirect errant vehicles. It limits minor vehicle contact by the vehicle tyres and suspension systems to the base of the barrier. This product has been instrumental in preventing crossover accidents on major motorway networks.
