Issue 6 Drawings & Datasheets
BBS Technical Construction File: Issue 6 was officially launched as of April 2017. Encompassing over a decade of vehicle restraint system design, the latest suite of CE certified drawings, datasheets and guidance documents has been carefully produced to provide enhanced EN1317 approved solutions to highways industry requirements.
Amongst the benefits will be reduced construction costs through simplified foundation requirements and enhanced bridge solutions. Additionally, in response to the industry bridge maintenance schedule, we have crash tested and implemented a new short length barrier detail to allow permanent access to bridge joints – see below for a typical construction method of building concrete barrier across a bridge.
Issue 6 Product Advancements
Crash testing success has allowed BBS to introduce significant product advancements within Issue 6 including:-
Simplified bridge arrangements by removing the need for a costly in-situ concrete cradle foundation across bridge decks. A bituminous 100mm deep foundation, reflecting the existing construction on the vast majority of all bridge decks is now permitted.
A reduced minimum length of barrier between expansion joints together with removable steel sections above all transverse bridge joints simplifies future joint maintenance. This massively reduces costs to the client.
Expansion joint arrangement that provides continuity of the system.
Universal transition to both UK Non Proprietary steel barriers systems and Proprietary steel barrier systems.
A Designer Edition of essential details simplifying integration of BBS safety barriers within overall project design.
A reduced general arrangement foundation for all Concrete Barriers within the TCF permitting 50mm embedment within a 100mm thick bituminous layer. This reduces costs by facilitating the preferred construction option to construct barrier prior to adjacent surface course but removing the requirement to provide a 150mm thick foundation.
BBS Technical Construction File: Issue 6 supersedes the now withdrawn Issue 5 design manual. All schemes that are currently under construction from design guidance provided by Technical Construction File: Issue 5 shall continue under the direction of Issue 6.
