Great news for both the road user and the highways industry as the Government unveils their plans to improve and enhance the local A-road network throughout England. An annual fund of £1 billion is being provided to the councils to improve the local infrastructure. This annual fund is part of a £6.1 billion programme of road improvements where, over the next 6 months, the Government will be taking the next steps on 55 road improvements across the country, including 8 schemes, consulting on 10 schemes and publishing final plans for another 29 schemes.
These improvements and schemes are a positive move forward for the Highways Departments and Local Authorities giving them the opportunity to improve local networks, with the A-roads needing greater improvement. This will also benefit the road user by easing road congestion, improving safety , reducing journey time and increasing capacity on roads. This radical funding plan will also boost the local economy and give these areas better local connections.
